Good Healthy Foods To Lose Weight

I know that when I started eating in a more healthy manner I was skeptical. Could I really do this? Would I miss my old eating habits too much?

I was in for quite a surprise. I want to go over two foods that I discovered were awesome when I had totally ignored them in the past.

Hummus – A Great Snack

If you’ve never had hummus before, then you need to try it! It’s a paste-like food that is made of chickpeas and tahini. I know, that might not sound too appetizing at first, but it’s all in the flavoring. There is a limitless supply of different flavored hummus. I like to just spread it on crackers or bread of any kind, or even dip veggies in it.

Hummus is a great source of healthy fiber and protein. Some people say that it has a little too much fat for their liking, but it really depends from brand to brand (if you go with store bought hummus). Plus, you DO need fat in your diet. It just needs to come from good sources, and this is definitely one of them.

Try a bunch of different flavors and brands to find out which one you like the most. You’re bound to find something you love.

Tomatoes – A Seriously Great Veggie

Tomatoes are something that you either love or you hate. I’m definitely on the love side of this, but I never really appreciated this delicious vegetable as much as I should have.

Tomatoes have a lot of benefits to offer in terms of vitamins and antioxidants. They are perhaps the most well-known for their amount of lycopene, which is a powerful antioxidant that many believe helps prevent cancer cells from forming. They also contain a large amount of potassium.

Some great uses for this amazing veggie are in sauces to put over whole grain pasta or in fresh salads. The one use for tomatoes that I want to share with you in this article is a little snack that I have all the time.

It’s basically a piece of toasted bread with a little bit of light mayo or low-fat yogurt spread on it, with tomato slices on top of that. Sprinkle a little ground black pepper and/or garlic powder on top and you are ready to snack. This is something I discovered completely on accident, but I learned that it’s delicious very quickly!

So, these are just two of the many foods that I’ve discovered to be awesome since changing my eating habits for the better. What do you think of them? And what are your favorite healthy foods?

Body Fat Percentage Needed For Abs To Show

A very common question regarding abdominal development is “What body fat percentage is needed for abs to start showing?” I’d like to answer this for you.

For men: A good percentage for men to target when trying to make their abs visible is 10%. This will allow you to see the outline of the abs. Keep going and drop a couple more percentage points and they can look even more stunning.

For women: Women do not need as low of a percentage as men do. If you are a woman, you need to shoot for the target of 15% to 20%.

The reason why the percentage for men is much lower than it is for women is that men and women tend to build up fat differently. Women usually build up more fat on their hips and thighs than their stomach. On the other hand, men tend to accumulate fat on their stomach area more than any other part on the body.

A couple of important points about this:

1. The actual target number for you can vary due to body fat distribution. This is something that you can consult a trainer or doctor for if you want to know for sure

2. Doing hundreds of crunches and sit-ups won’t help. This is a common misunderstanding about abs. The key to getting them is burning belly fat, not toning the actual abdominal muscles.

I hope that this helps clear up this question a bit!

If Losing Weight Was Easy Everyone Would Do It

There seems to be this popular idea today that losing weight can be easy. All it takes is taking a few diet pills each day and you’re all set. Right?

Wrong. Losing weight is easy IN THEORY. It’s difficult in practice. It takes hard work, determination and a very strong will to succeed. It takes a deeper motivation than just looking better. You need to want it for other reasons as well, such as improving your health so you can live a longer and more full life.

It’s easy to get the McWhatever instead of choosing a healthier alternative when you need a quick meal.

It’s easy to skip a workout in exchange for some sit-on-the-couch time.

It’s easy to make excuses.

So basically, losing weight is NOT easy. But if it was easy, then everyone would do it.

Do you have what it takes?

Four Six Pack Abs Benefits That Are Often Forgotten

There are many benefits to having six pack abs and losing your excess belly fat. Obviously, the one that is most thought about is the fact that you will look better. With those pounds gone around your waist it will transform the way you look. While this is great, there are also other benefits that come from getting rid of this weight in your abdominal area, and they are just as important (though often forgotten).

1. Your back will feel better. Carrying around extra weight on your stomach can put a lot of stress on your back. Losing the weight eases the pressure on it and will help prevent back injuries from happening. As people grow older, back injuries become more prevalent and likely, and this is a great way to help prevent this.

2. Your posture will improve. We could all stand to improve our posture a bit! I know that mine is pretty bad and could use some work. Similar to the first point I just made, one of the biggest benefits to having six pack abs is that it will improve your posture. Your abdominal muscles are stronger and you also have less weight on your body at any given time.

3. You will have much more energy.
Having extra fat on your body can really bring you down. This is why people who are obese have such a hard time keeping their energy level up. By losing weight, you will really increase your energy levels. Who knows, you may be able to quit your caffeine addiction? This is often one of the first things that people do when they lose weight. They no longer need the stimulation as their body and metabolism are now working at the capacity that they are supposed to.

4. Your heart health will improve. While there are certainly many other health benefits that come with this type of weight loss, the improvement of your heart health is possibly the most important. Heart disease is the leading killer of people in America, as well as many other parts of the world. This benefit, in my mind, is the most important of all.

These are just four of the great changes and benefits that you’ll experience when you lose your excess stomach fat and finally get the six pack abs you want. If you approach things correctly, and follow the right plan, all of this is attainable for you.

Getting Over The Healthy Eating Hump And Lose Weight

Having to drastically change eating habits is one of the biggest reasons why people do not try to lose weight that they know they should be losing. Giving up all the “good stuff” is difficult and making the switch to eating healthy to lose weight is sometimes confusing.

When changing your diet from unhealthy to healthy, you will experience an initial hump that it is hard to get over. You will be missing all the fatty and sugary items that were a part of your daily life for so long. The new items that you’ve included in your diet are fine, but still not as good as what you are used to.

The good news is that getting over this hump is definitely possible and if you can manage to do it then you will be in the clear.

Here’s why…

At the point when you realize the huge benefits that come with eating well (not just weight loss, but increased energy), you will be addicted to the feeling.

This is why many people who successfully change their eating habits from bad to good often find that the mere thought of eating a non-healthy item that they loved in the past makes them cringe. They realize that these bad foods only hold very short term benefits (usually in flavor alone) and that’s just not enough anymore. They can now eat good food, which also has good flavor, that has lasting and sustainable benefits for their body.

When this occurs, which it will if you do things the right way, the sky is the limit for you. Getting over the hump that comes with the transformation from a bad diet to a good diet will make a massive difference in your life.

My favorite tip for helping you get over this hump is to try as many new (healthy) items as you can. This does two main things that will make the process easier.

1. It keeps things interesting. While your mind may be wandering and wanting to have the bad foods of old, trying many new foods will keep your mind interested in exploring these new options and off the temptation of going back to your former favorites.

2. You will discover many new favorites. When I started eating helthier to lose weight, I had never tried hummus before. It’s now one of my favorite foods and replaces the bad snacks that I used to have during the middle of my day. This will happen often to you!

So, I know that things can be difficult at first, but understand that once you get over this diet changing hump things will be easier. You can look forward to reaching this point!

Two Reasons Why Your Ab Workout Routine Should Change Every Once In A While

Switching up your ab workout routine and strategy every once in a while is a must if you want to see the best results. It would be nice if it was as easy as finding a plan, doing it 3-5 times per week and miracles would happen, but that’s not reality.

The first reason why this is not the way to go is because the human body is extremely smart and it’s great at adapting. It will get used to your workout and in time be so comfortable with it that it stops being effective. Your metabolism needs these little changes and switches to stay fully engaged and in full fat burning mode.

The second reason to start changing your ab workout routine every so often is because you must keep things interesting if you want to stay focused and motivated. Doing the same workout over and over again is a great way to make yourself bored! Switching things up when you start to feel that first bit of boredom is a great way to fight against it and get yourself excited about working out again. Maybe try a few new exercises and see if you like any of them.

Any good ab workout routine or program that you decide on should include variations of the workouts it includes. It should be aware of the fact that this needs to happen to make your efforts effective.

So, these are just two of the reasons why you should switch up your six pack ab workout routine every once in a while. If you’re currently in that rut where your workout doesn’t have you excited anymore, then make some changes starting at your next session! And if you’re looking to start working out soon, then keep this in mind.

How Advertising and Bad Business Have Ruined Flat Belly Dreams For Many

In today’s society, we are constantly bombarded with advertisements and the lure of the new greatest thing. New fad diets, workout programs and exercise equipment arise almost daily. With these new products and ideas come a large amount of advertising, and a huge abundance of options for consumers. I’d like to talk about how this constant barrage of advertisements and scummy businesses are ruining the weight loss dreams of many people.

When people are hit with so many ads, ideas and sales pitches, information overload occurs. This information overload overwhelms the mind and making a decision to go one way or another becomes much too difficult, so we give up. It complicates the decision making process so much that we don’t see the effort required to make a decisions as a good use of our energy.

After information overload, we experience the fear of making the wrong choice. If we do settle on something that seems like it’s worth our time, we are then hit with fear that we have made the wrong choice. Many people call this “buyers remorse.” It’s this second guessing and questioning that ultimately holds a lot of people back and keeps them from reaching their weight loss goals.

It’s this paralysis due to too many options and the fear of either making the wrong choice or being scammed that really holds people back.

So how can you fight this and not only make a decision about which belly fat loss road to follow, but stick to it until you’ve accomplished what you have set out to do?

Simple. Just pick a diet, method or program that looks interesting to you, research it and then use it if it proves to be legitimate after that research. Once you’ve done that, stick with it. Determination and the ability to stick with something is necessary to succeed at anything in life, and weight loss is no exception.

I know that it’s difficult, but you need to try to separate yourself from the never-ending stream of advertisements and promises of a quick weight loss fix and get real. Battle the information overload and have the will to stick with a plan that has been proven to work. It’s not easy, but hey, if losing fat was easy then everyone would be doing it!

Diseases Caused By Obesity

It’s no secret that some very serious diseases caused by obesity. Since the stomach area is often the first place that this extra weight develops, it’s crucial to understand how to keep that weight away. In this post I want to talk about a few of these health problems that can arise. I hope that you take this seriously and it motivates you to get healthy!

Type 2 Diabetes – This type of diabetes is common in people who are overweight and causes high levels of blood sugar. These high levels of blood sugar can cause stroke, blindness, heart disease, the need for limb amputation and kidney disease, among other things. Over 80% of people with type 2 diabetes are overweight. That is a staggering figure and proves a big point.

Heart Disease And Stroke – Heart disease is the number one cause of death in the United States, as well as many other places in the world. A heart attack is caused when the flow of blood throughout the body, and to the heart is disrupted. This is often caused by blockages created by excess fat cells.

A stroke is caused when the blood flow to a person’s brain is disrupted. Your brain requires a very regulated and constant flow of blood to work properly.  Heart disease and stroke are very connected with being overweight because this excess fat creates high levels of bad cholesterol, high blood pressure and too many fat cells in the blood.

Sleep Apnea – Sleep apnea essentially causes people to stop breathing during sleep. In very mild cases, this will only awaken the sleeper and cause them to gasp for air. In the more serious and life threatening cases that arise, this stop in breathing can cause the sleeper to go into cardiac arrest. The best way to prevent and improve sleep apnea conditions is to lose weight. This will reduce the amount of fat that constricts the airways around the neck.

Cancer – It has been shown that cancer and obesity are connected. The exact reason(s) behind this is often debated by doctors and scientists. Cancer is caused by cells that grow abnormally in the body. A proven way to fight the risk of cancer is to exercise regularly and follow a properly balanced diet that includes plenty of fruits and vegetables.

These diseases caused by obesity are really just the beginning of the ones that are caused or contributed to by excess fat, especially belly fat. They are very serious, and many people don’t start making changes to become more healthy until they have already experienced one or more of these complications. Don’t wait for that to happen. Get started now and don’t take any chances. Your life could depend on it.
